Photos and Recognition

When you scan a photo:

We do not store your photos. The photo is sent to OpenRouter and the model provider it routes to (Qwen by Alibaba Cloud) only to recognize the object. If that attempt fails, the same photo is sent once more to the fallback provider (ByteDance Seed). Our request asks these providers not to collect or retain your data, and is only routed to providers that do not collect it.
The recognition result (the word, meaning, phonetic and example sentence; text only, never the photo) is kept on our servers for 7 days, so that the same result can be returned if your network drops during a scan. After 7 days it is deleted.
The sticker cutout is made on your device. The cutout model and the code that runs it are downloaded from this site to your browser and cached there; your photo is not uploaded for the cutout.

Word Library

When you save a card to your word library:

The card is first saved in your browser on this device. When you are signed in, the card text (word, phonetic, meaning, example sentence) and its sticker image (the cutout, never the original photo) are synced to our servers on Cloudflare (D1 database and R2 storage), so you can see them on your other devices. Only you can read them.
If a card was saved before its cutout was ready, the photo stays only on your device and is never synced to our servers; only a sticker made later is synced.
After deleting a card syncs, its text and sticker are deleted from our servers; we keep only the card identifier and deletion time so your other devices also remove it.
When you delete your account, your cards are deleted with it, and their stickers are removed by our daily cleanup, usually within a day (later if there is a large backlog).
Copies saved in your browser stay on that device until you clear the site data in your browser.

We implement appropriate security measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.

We may employ third-party companies and individuals to facilitate our services, provide services on our behalf, or assist us in analyzing how our services are used.
